CENTRE CURRICULUM AND PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS
Centre learning and program planning experiences consist of the following:
- Emphasis on social interaction.
- Learning concepts such as numbers, letters, colours and shapes.
- Story telling, music, finger play, creative movement and early math.
- Art, sensory experience, cognitive development, gross motor play and daily learning circle.
- Children’s ideas and imaginations are incorporated in developing program plans.
- Preparation for Kindergarten (early reading skills)
- Nature exploration.
- Voice and dramatic play.
- Organization, participation and the learning of problem solving.
- Learning independence, self-improvement and early critical thinking.
JUNIOR / TODDLER PROGRAM
Our full day Junior / Toddler program is designed for 15 months – 30 months of age and runs daily from 8.00 a.m. to 5.30 p.m.
This program consist of:
- Early experiences of teacher / child relationship (bonding and interaction).
- Exposion to music, listing voices and repetition.
- The toddler is learning to follow teacher’s directions.
- The child is learning to choose and put toys away.
- Children are learning to eat and drink by them self.
- Learning body parts and body parts movement incorporated in songs.
- Learning independence. (dressing and undressing)
- Promote social interaction and sharing. (circles, stories, games, gross motor time)
- Building attention span. (making puzzles, building with blocks, lego, floor activities)
- Learning to trust others. (group creative activities)
- Counting (numbers recognition, stacking)
- Alphabet repetition.
PRESCHOOL PROGRAM
Our full day Preschool program is designed for children 36 months – 4 years of age and runs daily from 8.00 a.m. to 5.30 p.m.
- To provide the children with a rich, interesting environment that they can explore with all their senses.
- To encourage the children’s feelings of competence by giving them opportunities to problem solving.
- To foster a sense of autonomy by ensuring flexibility and choice.
- To develop the children’s self-esteem by ensuring that they feel valued and cared for as individuals.
- To encourage the development of positive social skills, group discussion, decision-making.
- Creating artwork as individuals and group.
- To expand their language vocabulary, taking turns to tell stories, sing songs.(make poems and rhymes)
- Introduction to audio and visual activities. (early reading activities)
- Early math exposure, use props.
- Defining numbers, letters, sound activities. (tracing, printing, matching)
- Developing gross and fine motor activities on table and floors.
- Learning to use and mixing colours for art work creation.
TOILET TRAINING
We prefer that children in the preschool program be toilet trained, completely and independently. However, we can accommodate children who are still in diapers if a plan for toilet training has been established and is adhered to by staff and parents. (Age level 2 1/2 yrs. – 3yrs.)
REST ROUTINE
Children have a rest period of 2 hours daily. If an older child is unable to sleep, they may rest on a cot for 1 hour, then be allowed to engage in quiet activities. (books, reading areas). However, should a child, who cannot rest quietly, disturbs, or endangers him/her self or other children, the parents will be called to pick up their child for the day, as other children have the right to have their rest and quiet time.
Program activities offers:
- Kindergarten preparation.
- Learns to interact with larger group – with the help of staff.
- Building concentration span. (more difficult puzzles)
- Theme project design. (group activities)
- Solving conflicts becoming more socially active. (play social games together)
- The staff incorporates the children’s ideas into the weekly program activities.
- Exploring early math activities. (add and subtract)
- Explore early reading activities. (audiovisuals)
- Exiting walking trips are planned by the staff in the summer. (nature and gardening)
- Drop off and pick up to and from school. Lunch and p.m. snack provided (3 hrs.care)
- Choice of homework activities after school.
- Teacher’s help. (with organization and participation, encouraging children who need help)
